Marr heads to combat duty in Afghanistan

Fighting to protect our freedom

Spc. Michael (“Mike”) Marr of 66 Timber Drive, Gilpin County, will be heading to the combat zone of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, in early February as a member of the U.S. Army Reserves.

Marr and his family moved here in December of 1996 and he is a 2007 Gilpin County high school graduate. His parents, Joe and Mary Marr, are proud of the choice Mike has made to serve his country.

Marr is an equipment operator, but also a qualified M-240B machine gunner who accurately hits his targets 800 yards away! Mike will be working with an MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle while he’s overseas. When asked what he liked best about being in the reserves, he replied that it’s being part of the 1% of the population serving their country.

Gilpin County is home for Marr and he hopes to settle in Colorado when he returns stateside once again.

We wish you Godspeed, Mike, and a safe return home!
