“The Price Is Right” auditions at Fortune Valley Casino
It’s guaranteed fun!
Hope and luck shimmered in the air as hundreds of contestants stretched out in a line, filling the lower level of Fortune Valley Hotel & Casino on Thursday, August 6th, when KCNC-TV Denver (CBS4) hosted an audition for the popular, nationally-televised show, “The Price Is Right.” The show is conducting a national search for contestants in major television markets for the first time in its 38 year history.
All contestant hopefuls received their own name tag and then spent several animated minutes being publically videotaped in front of a camera and very bright lights. The tapes will be sent to Los Angeles where the show is based for review by producers of the show. Out of this Fortune Valley group, three lucky winners will be chosen to receive an all-expenses-paid, 2-days-and-nights stay in Los Angeles near the filming studio. When asked what qualities the show’s producers will be looking for, CBS4’s Greg Moody commented that someone should be fun to watch and have high energy.
Two previous winning contestants, Brian and Gretchen, both of Denver, were present at the audition to encourage the interviewees to do their best during the audition. Brian had won a good amount of money and quipped that the State of California always collects its sales tax first from the earnings of contestants. Gretchen was fun to watch as she joyfully recounted her own show appearance!
The Promotion Manager for CBS4, Lauren Ridgley, remarked that there was a total of 336 people who tried out for the show. Based on their videotaped auditions, three people out of that number would be chosen to fly out to attend the show. Out of those three, one lucky person would be given a bidder’s spot on Contestants’ Row. As Ridgley said, “One is guaranteed to ‘Come On Down!’” The hopeful contestants will be notified within a month or two about being selected – or not – to attend the show.
While standing in line and waiting at Fortune Valley, one of the potential contestants tried his luck out on one of the slot machines. He put in a $20 bill and hit a $500 payoff. He was glad he came up to the audition whether he was selected to be a contestant for the show or not! Our slot machine winner planned on bringing up a friend the next night to spend his winnings on dinner and to try another play on the same lucky machine.
