Classics, Customs and Hot Rods in Central City

To be televised on the Vintage Vehicle Show

It was classic Colorado weather on Friday, July 31st, when Central City hosted the First Annual “Roddin’ the Rockies” Central City Cruise and Car Show in historic downtown. More than 30 vehicles participated in the show, parking on closed-to-traffic Main Street, which ran from noon to 3:00 p.m. Local vendors, including the T-Shirt Shack from Central City, provided merchandise and refreshments for sale.

The show started at noon with a light breeze, plenty of sunshine, and bright blue skies. Within an hour the weather changed from those perfect car show conditions to being cloudy with light rain. A few hours later at the end of the show the weather was back to being perfect. The live band, Jr. and The Valiants, provided nostalgic car music, including “Suzy Q” and in rueful homage to the weather, a rendition of “Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain.” The changing weather didn’t deter visitors to the car show though – plenty of folks strolled down Main Street’s covered boardwalks to view the classy, lustrous automobiles.

The nationally televised “Vintage Vehicle Show” with Lance Lambert was present to interview Roy Bernal about his classic 1934 red Ford touring sedan. The sedan is also known as a “Bonnie and Clyde” as that model was the infamous getaway car the bank robbers used – and were shot in – in the early 1930s. Bernal purchased the car about five years ago and spent two years going over it – it is in gorgeous, immaculate condition. For those of you familiar with the show, be sure to watch for this segment on Bernal’s sedan which is scheduled to be aired on the “Vintage Vehicle Show” within two months.

It was a great beginning for an annual car show and Central City Marketing Director Greg Moates hopes to see the show back again next year. Check out the “Roddin’ the Rockies” website for more great summer car shows at www.goldensupercruise.com.
