HCFPD aims to move forward

Physically and philosophically

High Country Fire Protection District (HCFPD) Board of Directors met the evening of May 21, 2009. The District has been updating vehicles and equipment and is now looking to relocate Station 1.

County Clerk spending under review

Spending may/may not be improper

The Jefferson County District Attorney’s office has confirmed it is assisting the Federal Bureau of Investigation in a review of Gilpin County Clerk and Recorder, Jessica Lovingier’s expenditures. The investigation, started early in 2009, was initiated by a telephone tip, resulting in a broadcast “expose” by a Denver television channel. William C. Russell, Jr.

1915 – 2009

William C. Russell, Jr., long-time resident of Central City, died in his home on Eureka Street early Sunday morning. He was 93 years old.

Bill was born in 1915 his Denver; his father was a mining engineer who worked throughout the west. Bill grew up in Colorado, though he was sometimes sent to military schools in other states.

Gilpin School Board announces new superintendent

Gilpin School’s Board of Education conducted a budget workshop prior to their regular meeting on May 18, 2009. Board President Scott Groginsky and members, Rusty Hardy, Craig Holmes, Bob Masslich and Jerry Yocom were present, as were Superintendent Ken Ladouceur and Principals Alexis Donaldson and Lisa Schell. During the regular meeting, the Board announced the name of the new superintendent.

Black Hawk honors law enforcement

Past and present

Black Hawk City Council began their May 13, 2009 meeting remembering a fallen hero from the City’s early days. Mayor David Spellman read the official proclamation honoring Marshal Robert A. Clark who was killed in the line of duty on July 10, 1869. Black Hawk’s Chief of Police Stephen Cole, and members of the City’s Police Department, had researched the life and death of Marshal Clark and submitted his name for entry on the Colorado and the National Law Enforcement Officer Memorial. Black Hawk tax means payday at Gilpin School

$79,000 from first three months

May 8, 2009, was a historical payday for Gilpin County School District. Black Hawk’s City Council met with members of the Board of Education at 2:00p.m. After comments by elected officials, they handed over a check payable to the school district for $54,916.
