“John Gregory’s Gold”
The Peak to Peak Chorale players are at it again. Just in time for Mother’s Day, they’ve put together their annual spring dinner theater musical production, “John Gregory’s Gold.” This will be the ninth play (she thinks, but who’s counting?) written by soprano Cora Jean Leenheer. She describes herself as “mainly a homemaker” (with a background in psychology and management) who likes to write and does a little bit of professional editing. “I’ve become quite a history buff,” she said, crediting the months of research she’s done while writing each original Chorale play. …read the rest of this story »

Council pursues CLG status
Black Hawk’s City Council conducted three public hearings at their April 22nd meeting (with no participation from the public on any of them). Mayor David Spellman and Aldermen Linda Armbright, Paul Bennett, Diane Cales, Kathy Doles, Tom Kerr and Greg Moates were present.
Historic Preservation

Election results
The results of United Power’s Board of Directors elections are in. For the Mountain District, incumbent Rick Newman retained his seat for another term. Newman culled 2,859 votes to opponent Don Herod’s 2,118. In the East District, Tim Erickson was elected with 2,573 votes, defeating incumbent Dick McLean by 124 votes. Bill Berens, South District, won his first seat on the board with 1,819 votes. His opponents, Shawn Enriques and Ray Kilgore (incumbent), received 1,437 and 1,747 votes respectively. Elementary or Middle-School?
Gilpin School’s sixth graders may move from the elementary to the secondary school next fall. If they do, it will be the fourth time in eleven years the grade level has ping-ponged between or around the elementary and middle schools. Peak to Peak Rotary Club
The Peak to Peak Rotary Club held its weekly meeting at Fortune Valley Casino last Thursday, April 16th. The meeting’s main guests were Gilpin County School students who were members of the Rotary-sponsored Interact Club, Bobby Garza and Kira Hicks, and students who won the Rotary’s “4 Way Test Essay” contest in March, Michael Barngrover, Victoria Pietsch, and Beth Bendrat.

Not the weather, this time
An equipment failure at United Power’s Ralston Creek substation caused a black-out that spanned Gilpin County from Rollinsville to the school last Wednesday, April 15th.

Scholarship fundraiser for Gilpin girls
There’s a big trail race coming up on Saturday, June 6th, in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. It’s called the Golden Gate Dirty Thirty and is composed of 30 mile, 12 mile, and 7 mile courses all being run on a trail beginning and ending at Nott Creek Trail Head within the park boundaries.
