Hidee Gold Mine 4th Annual End of Spring celebration Lisa Kunz 06/05/2008 - The Hidee Gold Mine will host their 4th Annual End of Spring celebration on June 20 from 4 pm-7 pm. Free underground tours will start every half hour from 4 pm until 6 pm. As the mine is a constant 45 degrees, year around, please bring a jacket and wear comfortable shoes. From 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm there will be free food, beverages and entertainment. The Hidee Gold Mine is owned and operated by the Hidee Gold Mining Company, which also owns the Dictator Mine in Clear Creek County. The mine has been worked intermittently since 1896 when it was discovered. The Hidee Gold Mine is located just above Central City in the Virginia Canyon-Glory Hole area, reputed to be the richest square mine on earth. The mine is now easily accessed by the Central City Parkway, mile marker 6.3. During the walking tour you will be able to experience how a mine actually works. The Hidee has a two-foot section of rich gold ore exposed. After donning the safety glasses provided by the mine, you can set about using a hammer and chisel to chip a sample. Mine samples have assayed as high as 11.20 ounces gold, 20 ounces silver and 16.5% copper per ton. Tour guides are actual hard-rock miners with many years of experience underground. The Hidee Gold Mine is now open for tours by appointment only, with a two week lead time suggested. Unfortunately, children under the age of five are not allowed on the tours for safety reasons. During a regular tour, admission for children ages 5-12 are $5.00, and adults are $10. For more information regarding this free celebration or to schedule your own tour, please contact the Hidee Gold Mine at 303-989-2861, or check their website at www.hideegoldmine.com.
