Postal Service announces ZIP Code realignment & improved mail service for Black Hawk area effective June 21, 2008 05/15/2008 - BLACK HAWK,
CO - The Postal Service is announcing a ZIP Code realignment change for
The ZIP Code change becomes effective June 21, 2008. It will affect customers who live in the northern Black Hawk Gilpin County area. (See description of realigned ZIP Code 80422 boundaries below.) Customers affected will soon receive letters explaining the change and service improvements. Postal officials will also discuss the ZIP change in a community meeting on May 20th. The meeting will be held at 6:30 PM at the Gilpin County School Auditorium, 10595 HWY 119. Customers who are now using ZIP Code 80403 out of Golden and living within the following area will switch to current Black Hawk ZIP Code 80422 on June 21, 2008. This area is bounded roughly by the Gilpin County Line on all sides. The change affects approximately 1300 customer addresses in the Black Hawk area. It allows for three mail routes to be transferred from the Golden Post Office to the Black Hawk Post Office. These customers will receive mail delivery and customer service from the Black Hawk Post Office, located at 145 Clear Creek Highway 119, beginning June 21. In addition, these customers can use the local Black Hawk name in their mailing address. Customers receiving route delivery who live in Rollinsville may now use Rollinsville, CO as their city name but must use 80422 as their ZIP Code. Residents in these areas are asked to start using the new ZIP Code and city name in their mailing address on June 21, 2008 when the change becomes effective, and not before. They should also ask mailing correspondents to start using their new ZIP code on June 21. There is a one-year grace period in which mail addressed to their former ZIP Code will still be processed and delivered. However, the Postal Service asks these customers to start using their 80422 ZIP Code and address on June 21 to allow for much more efficient mail processing and delivery. “We are extremely excited about making this positive change which will greatly benefit Black Hawk customers and provide them with much better service,” says Elaine Nelson, Acting Manager of Address Management Systems for the Colorado/Wyoming Postal District. “They are invited to attend the town hall meeting on May 20th, in which we will explain the change and provide them with more information.” Black Hawk customers can also contact Postmaster Cindy Stanford at 303-582-5252 for more information.
