Cinco de Mayo

Lisa Kunz

05/08/2008 - Gilpin County School was honored this Cinco de Mayo to have the same dance troupe perform in their auditorium as will perform for the National Performing Arts Convention in the Denver Center of Performing Arts this summer.

Gilpin senior, Kelsey Casais, has danced with the Fiesta Colorado Dance School for four years and again this year brought the apprentice group to our school. The dance school is located in Lakewood and is under the direction of dance instructor, Jeanette Lucero. The dancers started the Cinco de Mayo celebrations by dancing in downtown Denver for two days, Saturday and Sunday. On Monday morning, May 5th, the dancers were again the featured entertainment at a cultural event televised by Denver TV Channel 31. Once finished, the dancers were up to Gilpin for two shows attended by all of the students, grades kindergarten through senior in high school. After the final dance, “The Mexican Hat Dance,” the dancers were headed south where they will dance for Colorado Springs campus C.U. students. Also this summer, the Fiesta Colorado Dance School will be a featured attraction at Disneyland in California.
