Need for speed!Ben Dugan 01/25/2007 - The second regular meeting for January took place at City Hall on January 16, 2007. Janet Spain and Shirley Voorhies were appointed to the Planning Commission and the lowering of the speed limit on the Central City Parkway issue was revisited. Joseph Behm, President of the Central City Business Improvement District, sent a letter requesting that the speed limit be increased to 50-55 mph throughout the length of the Parkway excepting the horseshoe curve at Hidden Valley and the last mile into the City. He noted that the Board reached the conclusion that the speed should be increased “after two years of driving experience on the Parkway, noting that most motorists travel the Parkway at speeds well over the posted limits.” He also stated that “for comparison purposes, US 6 and SH 119 are posted at the same speed or even higher limits, as the new, 4-lane Parkway. It is inconceivable to the Board that a narrow twisty canyon with minimal shoulders and guardrail, be posted at a higher limit than our Parkway.” City Manager Lynnette Hailey will have more information (via a requested traffic/speed analysis) at the next meeting on February 6, 2007. An ordinance granting the inclusion of additional real property into the City of Central Business Improvement District was set for public hearing on February 6. An ordinance amending Section 2-106 for Planning Commission compensation (no compensation for unscheduled meetings) was also set for public hearing. The City Manager update included a reminder that there is a joint meeting with Black Hawk on February 1 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. There is also a proposed ordinance regarding an outdoor address system and there will be a rock wall policy when the weather clears. The City is ready to move on the Richville House and is waiting on the deed from Reed Grimes to the City. Next meeting is scheduled for February 6, 2007 at City Hall.
