Seedling tree workshop

01/18/2007 - GOLDEN, Colo. – Property owners interested in reforestation and other conservation projects on their land can jumpstart their plans at a workshop by the Colorado State Forest Service in Golden on January 24th. The workshop will focus on the planting of seedling trees grown by the Forest Service and sold at nominal cost for conservation uses. Property owners must own at least two acres of land to qualify for these seedling trees.

The workshop will be at the Golden District office of the Colorado State Forest Service, 1504 Quaker St., 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. A forester will provide information on tree varieties available, as well as their suitability for particular uses and locations. Planting and care of seedling trees will be covered. Help with individual plans is available.

Colorado State University Cooperative Extension 4-H in Jefferson County handles the sales and distribution of these seedling trees in the Denver metro area and the mountain communities to the west. For more information on the seedling tree program and an order form, call the Extension office at (303) 271-6620.

About 40 varieties of trees, both deciduous and conifer, are available from the seedling program. Orders are received through late March and the trees are picked up at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in mid-April. Most of the deciduous trees are sold in bundles of 50 bare root plants at $31, plus tax, per bundle. The conifers are sold mostly as potted plants in crates of 30, at either $27 or $43.80, plus tax, depending on the size of the plants.
