Central City Council

Ben Dugan

01/11/2007 - The regular meeting of the Central City Council began with the swearing in of new members.  Newly elected members Ron Engels and Bob Spain were sworn in along with current members Ron Slinger, Chip Wiman, and Mayor Buddy Schmalz for 2007.

The council then reconvened as the liquor authority and approved Michael Rosenbaum as the new manager for the Century Casino in downtown Central City, replacing former manager David Aker. New General Manager Rosenbaum has liquor license experience for two restaurants in Aurora, CO.

Current HPC members were approved and retained for 2007. Current HPC members are Lew Cady, Jeff Casey, Anthony Giuliano, and Shirley Voorhies. Members receive HPC stipends for their services. Authorization for signing checks and wire transfers was approved by the council members. City officials authorized to sign checks on City bank accounts include: Mayor Buddy Schmalz, Mayor Pro Tem Chip Wiman, City Manager Lynnette Hailey, Shannon Flowers, and City Clerk Wendy Heffner. All checks require two signatures, one of which must belong to an elected official.

Colorado’s longest published newspaper, The Weekly Register Call, was named the official City newspaper. Official 2007 holidays were also approved, as was a $200 donation to the Gilpin County School yearbook. The City had previously donated $40 in 1997, $85 in 1999 and no amounts since that time. Ron Engel was designated as the City representative for DRCOG and Chip Wiman as the alternate. Those meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month in Denver.

City Manager Lynnette Hailey also advised the council that there would be free trash service for Central City residents and that there would be an update to the Rock Wall policy and a Richville House update at the January 16, 2007 meeting. There is to be a closed work session on January 11, 2007 at City Hall to address some pending issues, including a review of 2007 goals and former Council Member Cynthia Combs’ compensation.
