Ice Hawks pound Bombers

Travis Triplett

01/11/2007 - It was another game for Black Hawk, and time to hand their rivals another beat down.
In the last game, the Black Hawk Ice Hawks prevailed when the Bombers had no goalie to put in front of their net. In this contest, it wouldn’t have mattered if they had two of them. The Ice Hawks scored six consecutive goals en route to a 7-2 rout over one of their most hated rivals.
“We came to play. Simple as that,” said Ryan Gan.
Black Hawk has now won seven of the last eight meetings in a rivalry that is, of late, very one-sided. The last time the Bombers defeated Black Hawk, George W. Bush and John Kerry campaigned for the White House. The Ice Hawk offense made life absolutely miserable for the Bombers and their fans, with the latter screaming “dirty birds” every time a mountain redshirt touched the puck.
“Let them call us the dirty birds. We love it,” said Jeff Pershin.
The Ice Hawks rolled to a 6-0 lead in two periods in spite of being out shot 13-9. Joe Prudente, Ryan Gan, Tim Staples and Ryan Haggard all had their way with the Bombers’ goalie, while Michael “Spike” Bryant scored twice. The Bombers were frustrated with the lopsided score and the fact that their two best players, Daniel and Zeb Grein, were held to no points between the two of them. Although Jeff Richter finally scored two goals for the opposition, the game was already well out of reach.
“I think we can work with a six-goal lead,” said Chris “Roach” Edinger. “My job between the pipes is much easier when our offense is rolling like that.”
Black Hawk, with a lifetime 7-1 record against the Bombers, has now won the last four meetings by a combined score of 23-12.
