FROZEN DEAD GUY DAYS FESTIVAL LIVES!

2/16/2006 - NEDERLAND, COLORADO - The Frozen Dead Guy Days® festival celebrates its 5th anniversary March 10-12, 2006 in Nederland, Colorado with off-beat wacky winter fun. This Rocky Mountain town seventeen miles west of Boulder, elevation 8240', boasts a population of 1400 alive and 1 cryogenically frozen.

The festival that celebrates Nederland's only frozen resident draws international attention with its humorous escape from the winter blues. The BLUE BALL on Friday night, featuring the Afro-Cuban Latin Jazz band Onda and contests to crown the ICE QUEEN and GRANDPA LOOK-ALIKE winners, kicks off the three-day event that people are just "dying" to attend.

Thousands will gather Saturday for the CRYONICS PARADE, featuring the Denver Antique Hearse Club, and the world famous TUFF SHED COFFIN RACES, in which teams of six pallbearers carry a live "corpse" over a snow-packed obstacle course through the town park. A highlight of the races is the COFFIN CUP competition between the fastest teams from Nederland and the Manitou Springs' Emma Crawford Coffin Race, held in October. The POLAR PLUNGE is a chilling thrill with awards for costume and flair, raising funds for charity.

New this year is the FROZEN BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT, judged on endurance and best costume, and a Yoga CORPSE POSE event. These will be presented alongside the return of old favorites the FROZEN T-SHIRT contest, the BRAIN FREEZE, the pancake breakfasts, and food consumption and tossing contests involving Rogue Brewery's Dead Guy Ale, Rocky Mountain Oysters, Baby Back Ribs, and a Frozen Salmon.

More new frigid fun is the AFTERLIFE AUCTION, a live, fast-paced opportunity for attendees to choose their own life-after-death experience. Participants can bid on a TUFF SHED like the one that serves as "Grandpa's" final resting place, two plots at Crown Hill Cemetery in Denver, or an elegant funeral outfit.

The 1994 discovery of the body of the Norwegian "Grandpa" Bredo Morstoel on dry ice in a shed next to his family's mountain home was immortalized by an onslaught of international media while the Town of Nederland adopted an ordinance prohibiting the storage of frozen dead bodies, with Bredo Morstoel "grandfathered in."

Since "Grandpa's" daughter and grandson were deported back to Norway, "Grandpa" has been cared for by private contract with the family. Once a month, the "Ice Man" Bo Shaffer of Delta Technologies delivers a ton of dry ice to the Tuff Shed to keep "Grandpa" in a state of suspended animation. Bo will feature the story of his 12-year involvement with this bizarre circumstance in a humorous presentation entitled, "Chronicles of the Ice Man: Running a Backyard Cryonics Facility for Fun and Profit."

Representatives from the international cryonics movement will also present information about options for those who are interested in being "suspended" until medical science discovers a means of reanimation.

Complete details of all scheduled events, contest rules/regulation forms, and sponsorship opportunities are available on the official website of Frozen Dead Guy Days® at www.NederlandChamber.org or call the event line at 720-374-6742.
