Earn a Colorado Native Plant certificate

2/2/2006 - GOLDEN, Colo. - Have you always wanted to know how to identify beautiful plants that grow in nature? Would you like to learn more about how to use them in your landscape? Have you wondered what attracts hummingbirds to certain plants? Then consider earning a Native Plant certificate from Colorado State University Cooperative Extension.

  Each of the three-class sessions will focus on different native plant elements using living examples of the native flora. Within the setting of Colorado’s beautiful landscapes, course participants will learn plant identification, scientific names, key botanical characteristics, family features, ecological relationships, and human uses. Three sessions are required for the certificate.

  The classes are on Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The schedule for 2006 is:

May 6, 13 and 20 – Mount Falcon Open Space Park
June 3, 10 and 17 – Lair O the Bear Open Space Park
July 8, 15 and 22 – Reynolds Open Space Park
Sept. 9, 16 and 23 – Plains Conservation Center

  The fee is $85 for each three-class session. Space is limited and applications are due March 17. For more information or to request an application, call (303) 271-6646.
