Gilpin School District receives accolades from Colorado Department of Education 1/26/2006 - GILPIN COUNTY, CO – During its annual accreditation review with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the Gilpin County School District was acknowledged by two of its representatives from CDE for showing the most improvement out of all the Denver metro region school districts (18) over the last four years in getting students prepared to meet the standards as measured by the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP). The school district also made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the third year in a row. Only 59% of all school districts in the state made AYP this past year. According to CDE the Gilpin County School District is highly commended for meeting or exceeding 32 of its 32 AYP goals and its continuing commitment to learning for all children. On the state-produced School Accountability Reports (SARs) for the 2004-2005 school year, the middle school and high school both improved their academic performance to achieve a High rating, compared to Average the prior year. This status includes Gilpin’s middle and high schools at the same rating as the Boulder School District (Nederland MS/HS), Clear Creek School District and Jefferson County School District (Golden High School). Other impressive facts about the school district include the student-to-staff-ratio of 12:1, the percentage of Highly Qualified Staff teaching in our classrooms at 96% (a requirement of the federal No Child Left Behind Law – NCLB - indicates that all school districts meet a 100% Highly Qualified status by the 2006-2007 school year, which Gilpin will achieve) and that 83% of the 2005 graduating seniors went on to higher education or military service.
