Lady Eagles survive another squeaker By Scott
Fuller On Tuesday night she was at it again. Andrea Galanski remained her team’s anchor and led an eight-point second quarter charge which set the tone for the game, in Gilpin’s 32-27 victory over Resurrection Christian Tuesday night at Gilpin County High School. Galanski scored all but two of her team’s second quarter points and sparked a run which gave the Lady Eagles a 16-12 halftime lead; the margin, it would turn out, that Gilpin needed to pull away from the stingy Lady Cougars. While Gilpin managed to pull away very late, the outcome of the district matchup was very much in doubt, even as the final minutes of regulation ticked away. A fine post move by Galanski evened the contest at 23-23 all with just a minute gone by in the fourth. It was quickly answered on the other end by a free throw from Resurrection scoring threat Aubrey Scott, which brought the Lady Cougars back into the lead. An Amber Sterling free throw and a clutch shot from fellow senior Kim Fuller gave the Eagles a 28-25 advantage, and a lead they would never surrender. The Cougs would pull within one, but a pair of free throws from Galanski with less than thirty seconds remaining, sealed the win. The victory was the Eagles’ second in a row, following a ten-point home decision over Maranatha Christian on Feb. 2. Gilpin improves to a very respectable 10-5 on the season, and now sits alone in fourth, just three games behind league leader Longmont Christian. Resurrection Christian falls to 7-9. The Eagles officially enter the home stretch of their conference schedule and what remains of the regular season this weekend, as they have very little time to prepare for their hosting Daysprings (6-7) on Saturday. After that, Gilpin has three remaining regular season games, two of which are at home (Colorado Academy on Feb. 12, and Academy of Charter on Feb. 15. Gilpin’s regular season ends on Feb. 17.
