Courage to Teach

Staff Development Workshop

02/10/2005 - The Friends of Nederland Secondary School, the PTO of NMSHS, is pleased to be sponsoring a "Courage to Teach" Staff Development workshop on Friday, February 18th. Daniel Liston, Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the Education Department of the University of Colorado will lead our educators through exercises developed by Parker J. Palmer, Phd., founder of the Teacher Formation Organization (teacherformation.org).  The mission of a "Courage to Teach" retreat is to guide educators to reconnect with their identities as teachers and recognize the integrity of what and why they teach.  They will find that they can better affect real learning by being more available to students' social, emotional and educational needs. Donations by NMSHS parents is providing the funding for this Staff Development event.
Last spring the Friends group supplemented the Boulder Valley School District funding of a new computer lab with state of the art hardware and software. Among our on-going projects are improving communication with our stakeholders and the community, publishing a student directory, and coordinating fundraiser events. We are eager to respond to new ideas to enhance the learning experience at our school and welcome input from members of our community. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 4:45 in the Library at NMSHS. Our next meeting is on March 2nd.  Please call Laura Fisher at 303-259-0777 for more information or e-mail friendsofned@juno.com
