Black Hawk Gives All in Loss Travis Triplett 1/27/2005 - It was close for the Black Hawk Ice Hawks, but
close only counts as far as horseshoes and nuclear weapons are concerned. Black
Hawk gave everything they had, but they came up short in a wild game against the
Conquistadors in a 7-6 loss. The game featured
The Conquistadors jumped out to a two-goal lead early in the first and were seemingly in control until Brian Logan lit the lamp for Black Hawk. The mountain redshirts’ momentum, however, didn’t last as the Conquistadors converted on a power play. For awhile it looked like Black Hawk would wave the white flag, but Jeff “Let’s Get the Tardy Started” Moeller would not let his new team flounder. There were three things one needed to know about the goal: 1.The Conquistadors net minder gave up a costly rebound after an initial save. 2.Moeller found the back of the cage. 3.The goalie said things that were deemed unsuitable for family publication. It brought Black Hawk within a goal. It also earned Moeller a trip out of the team’s doghouse for being late for the game. “I left some messages for him before the game. He won’t be happy when he listens to his voicemail later,” said Adam Carr. “He will get more than an earful from the rest of the team should he do it again.” Don’t mind Adam, folks. He is just mad because he had to pay cash for sitting in the “five dollar bin” for two minutes. Jim Avers and Jeff Pershin also will be contributing their dimes and nickels this week. Black Hawk would close out the second period tied at three goals apiece thanks to a breakaway by Tim Staples. EVERYBODY: Beware the third line. The Ice Hawks would claim the lead for the first time with another breakaway goal; this time by Tony Reda. Apparently some Conquistador players caught the videotape of a “Reda Special” knocking an Ice Armor player into the middle of next week and decided not to risk their noggins this time around. He had no problem scoring on net after that. The Conquistadors, though, would rebound with a fluke goal that somehow slipped through Chris “Roach” Edinger’s five hole. They would add three more goals after that to seal victory. The victory was not secure until the clock read 0:00 as Reda and Moeller scored in the final minute. Sadly, it was a matter of too little, too late. The Black Hawk Ice Hawks have a 10:15pm game this Sunday against LEC. Come on down to the Sun Microsystems Ice Centre off of 104th and Highway 36 and catch all the action. “It’s your town and it’s your team, so see ‘ya at the game!”
