County News By Roger
Baker An Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between Gilpin and Clear Creek County was the main item of business on Tuesday’s agenda for the Gilpin County Commissioners. The IGA provides for cooperation between the two Counties in building and staffing a new animal shelter in Dumont. The shelter will provide housing for lost animals that might be rounded up by the new animal control vehicle Gilpin residents may have seen patrolling the area’s roads lately. That vehicle is also jointly operated by the two Counties, and spends time providing service in both. The cooperative effort in animal control reflects a prevailing attitude among the Gilpin Commissioners, to maximize services to its citizens through working with other counties and organizations. It’s an attitude I would expect to see more of in future years, as they try to deal in an effective and cost-efficient manner with needs and issues of the local populace which are just too infrequent or sporadic to justify a full-time Gilpin County employee. Agreements like this are always hard to work out, but worth the effort.
